This may be hard to hear, but we now have a tape which proves Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein pressured a young model to watch him while he took a shower. The audio was released yesterday.
Since then, Angelina Jolie released a statement saying she had a ‘bad experience’ with him, when she was young. She says Harvey made unwanted advances. “I had a bad experience with Harvey Weinstein in my youth, and as a result, chose never to work with him again and warn others when they did.” And that’s not all. Gwyneth Paltrow says Weinstein sexually harassed her in a hotel room after he hired her for the lead role in Emma when she was 22. She says that she told her then-boyfriend Brad Pitt about the incident and the actor reportedly confronted Weinstein at a film premiere, telling him to never touch Paltrow again. Heather Graham revealed yesterday that Harvey Weinstein once pressured her to trade sex for a movie role.
Harvey Weinstein’s wife Georgina Chapman has since filed for divorce. The couple has been married since 2007 and they have two children.
Barack Obama also released a statement:
Michelle and I have been disgusted by the recent reports of Harvey Weinstein. Any man who demeans and degrades women in such fashion needs to be condemned and held accountable, regardless of wealth or status. We should celebrate the courage of women who have come forward to tell these painful stories. And we all need to build a culture, including by empowering our girls and teaching our boys decency and respect, so we can make such behavior less prevalent in the future.
