It’s not clear if gas prices will jump here in the GTA following a massive explosion at an oil refinery in Saint John, New Brunswick. Residents near the Irving Oil refinery have been warned of possible “flare-ups” as the facility restabilizes after yesterday morning’s massive explosion. The city posted on social media last night that while the “shelter in place” order has been lifted, emergency management officials remain on site to monitor the Irving Oil refinery as it came back online. The explosion rocked a residential area sending flames and black smoke into the sky, but causing only minor injuries to four people. Irving Oil says there had been some sort of malfunction in the refinery’s diesel treating unit, where sulphur is removed from diesel fuel.

#SJEMO Update: The refinery unit has been stabilized and EMO is no longer recommending that area residents shelter in place.
The Saint John Fire Department has begun releasing some equipment and crews from the site, and Grandview Avenue has been re-opened to all traffic.
