Montecito, California has been hit recently with deadly mudslides. They swept through Santa Barbara County early this week. Oprah posted several videos to her Instagram account showing the devastating effects that the mudslides had on her property. Among the damage, she considers herself lucky but says the “house in the back is gone.” Ellen also shared some images from around her home. As of yesterday afternoon, she did not know the current state of her home.
The mudslides, triggered by pouring rains after devastating wildfires robbed the surrounding land of vegetation, swept homes from their foundations and blocked roads, turning the 101 freeway into a raging river.
This is the street in front of our house. I don’t know anything about our house yet. I’m heartbroken for our community of Montecito. I’m devastated for the families who lost loved ones. I’m grateful to all the rescue workers. Please send love to Montecito. pic.twitter.com/TmbqwzMLEz

This is not a river. This is the 101 freeway in my neighborhood right now. Montecito needs your love and support. pic.twitter.com/jRNCBrp4b5
