14 Shootings This Weekend In Toronto With At Least 17 People Suffering Gunshot Wounds

After a shooting last night in Scarborough, the totals are in from the long weekend. Five reported shooting incidents happened yesterday (Monday) and a total of 14 over the long weekend. 17 victims have been treated for gunshot wounds from these incidents. The worst shooting incident was at District 45 nightclub. It left five people injured, including one man who is in life-threatening condition.  Another man is in hospital with serious injuries after a shooting late yesterday afternoon, marking the third Toronto shooting of the day. Toronto police say officers were called to a complex in Lawrence Heights to find a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Police say two suspects were last seen running through the complex. Prior to that, Toronto Police now say two men are in hospital after a shooting in the city’s downtown core early yesterday. Police say a man was found injured on a sidewalk and a nearby vehicle was riddled with bullet holes. They say the second victim with gunshot wounds arrived at a hospital on his own. No suspect information was immediately released. The weekend of gun violence ended last night when a man who walked into a hospital with gunshot wounds. He is believed to be connected to a shooting incident in a Scarborough parking lot near Lawrence Ave and Mossbank Dr. A male suspect allegedly fled the scene in a black SUV.

Mayor John Tory has renewed his call to ban hand guns and semi / fully automatic weapons in the city. Police Chief Mark Saunders Saunders says the decision to ban guns is up to politicians, but he says any move to remove firearms from Toronto streets is a “good day for the city.”
