A woman at Dodger Stadium was taken to a hospital yesterday after being hit in the head by a foul ball during the first inning of the game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Colorado Rockies. The young woman, who has not been named, was sitting four rows from the field along the first base line, just beyond protective netting that extends to the end of the visiting dugout. She was hit by a sharp line drive by Dodgers star Cody Bellinger. In game footage, Bellinger can be seen clutching his helmet upon realizing the fan has been hit, while the crowd gasps. He then removes his helmet and looks anxiously into the stands and, according to the sports commentator who read Bellinger’s lips, said that the woman was “smoked in the face.” Bellinger then went over to check on her between innings. The woman at first stayed in her seat and was given an ice pack, but she left about 15 minutes later for further medical attention. A first-aid person who treated the woman said she was taken to the hospital for precautionary tests but that she was alert and answering questions.
