Arrest Made In Connection With The Shooting Of Toronto Rappers Smoke Dawg And Koba Prime

Toronto Police say a man has been arrested in connection to a shooting that left two emerging artists dead last summer. Jahvante Smart, 21, (known as Smoke Dawg) and Ernest Modekwe, 28, (known as Koba Prime), were gunned down at Queen & Peter St. in June 2018. Police say a woman shot in the same incident is expected to recover.

A warrant was issued for a 22-year-old man and police say he was arrested in Burnaby, B.C., last month on unrelated charges and turned over to police in Toronto. Police say they’re still looking for another suspect who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.┬áIf you know the whereabouts of the Young Person, do not approach them. They are considered armed, violent and dangerous. Call 911 immediately.

Smart released his first single in 2015 and was on rapper Drake’s Boy Meets World tour and Modekwe was the brand manager for a hip-hop collective called Prime.
