Bloc Leader Says Trudeau Needs To Put Chrystia Freeland In Charge While The PM Is Investigated For A Third Time By The Ethics Commissioner

The leader of the Bloc Quebecois is calling for Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland to take the country’s reins as the ethics commissioner continues an investigation of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his close ties to the WE Charity. The call comes as new revelations surface, showing the organization paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in speaking fees to members of Trudeau’s family — including his mother, brother and wife. Earlier, an ethics investigation began looking into Trudeau over allegations of a potential conflict of interest after the government awarded a sole-source contract to handle the Canada Student Services Grant to WE. The agreement was cancelled over the Trudeau family’s connections to the Toronto-based charity and its for-profit arm, ME to WE Social Enterprise.¬†WE says Trudeau’s mother received about $250,000 dollars for 28 speaking appearances at WE-related events between 2016 and 2020. It says his brother Alexandre has been paid $32,000 dollars for eight events.
