Baseball legend David Ortiz is back in Boston for continued medical care after the former Red Sox slugger was ambushed from behind by a gunman at a bar Sunday night in his native Dominican Republic. The team says a plane carrying the 43-year-old retired baseball players landed yesterday after a flight from the Caribbean nation where Big Papi underwent surgery after being shot in the back. His spokesman says doctors removed Ortiz’s gallbladder and part of his intestine, and his liver was also damaged in the attack. The Red Sox offered “all available resources” and sent an air ambulance to bring him back to Boston.
