Former Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz (AKA: Big Papi) has undergone surgery for a gunshot wound and is said to be in stable condition. The baseball legend, who retired in 2016, was ambushed in his native Dominican Republic on Sunday evening at a bar in Santo Domingo. Police say Ortiz was attacked by a man who got off a motorcycle, approached him from behind and shot him in the back at close range. Two other people were wounded, including a local TV host who was with Ortiz. Police don’t know if Ortiz was the intended target, but say the gunman was captured and beaten by a crowd of people at the bar.
