February 12 Winter Games Update – Gold And Silver For Canada In Pyeonchang

UPDATE: 8:20am: Mikael Kingsbury won a gold medal in men’s moguls.

Original story:

Canada has its first gold medal at the Olympics. Gabrielle Daleman of Newmarket, clinched it for the team by finishing third in the women’s free skate. That’s all they needed. Before that Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir won the ice dance portion of the event and Patrick Chan placed first in the men’s free program.

Canadian snowboarder Laurie Blouin won silver in the women’s slopestyle yesterday.

Christian Thomas had the eventual winner as Canada defeated Sweden 4-1 in a pre-Olympic men’s hockey exhibition game. Mat Robinson had a power-play goal to tie the game 1-1 for Canada in the first period, with Rene Bourque and Wojtek Wolski also scoring. Ben Scrivens started in goal for the Canadians and was replaced in net by Kevin Poulin after two periods.

So far, Canada has six medals — a gold, four silver and one bronze. Canada is guaranteed a medal in mixed doubles curling. Canada beat Norway 8-4 in the semi-final last night.
