A Texas groom was arrested after he robbed a bank just one day before his wedding to pay for the rings and the wedding venue – and he was busted when his fiancée found his photo circulating on social media for the heist.
Heath Bumpous robbed Citizens State Bank in Groveton, Texas on Friday around 11:30am where he approached a bank teller, threatened them saying he had a gun, and demanded cash. He told the bank teller that he was about to get married and needed the money for his wedding the following day. “He basically stated that he was getting married tomorrow so he didn’t have enough money for a wedding ring that he wanted to buy and he needed to pay for the wedding venue,” Sheriff Woody Wallace said.
Police then launched a hunt for Bumpous and shared surveillance video stills of the robbery suspect on Facebook, where Bumpous’ fiancée Dione Traylor recognized him. She told him to turn himself into authorities. He complied and turned himself in at the Houston County Courthouse and confessed to the crime. Bumpous, a former EMS employee, was booked into Trinity County jail on an aggravated robbery charge. The sheriff says most of the money stolen in the incident was recovered. It’s not clear when the couple will get married as their wedding plans were disrupted.
