Hydro One is warning cottagers that they could be facing higher electricity rates. The Ontario Energy Board, which regulates the hydro industry, wants to cut a seasonal customer category that applies specifically to cottagers. Hydro One says it’s against the change, which it estimates could see rates jump by up to $1,000 a year for about 84,000 cottagers. But the energy board says the seasonal class isn’t working because not all users in it are paying their fair share. The board has not made a final decision on the plan and Hydro One says it will need time to notify its customers regardless of the outcome.
