Multiple Warnings And Advisories Up About Today’s Freezing Rain

A large part of the area is under a freezing rain warning and the rest is under a weather advisory. Here is how it shapes up: For Toronto, Dufferin-Innisfil, Caldeon, Brampton, Mississauga, York Region and areas east: Ice pellets are expected to begin this morning. A risk of freezing rain or freezing drizzle will accompany the 2-4cm of ice pellets before it comes to an end this evening or late tonight. For Burlington, Hamilton, Oakville, Halton Hills, Milton, Niagara and all of Waterloo Region … this is freezing rain warning, which means it is imminent or happening. Basically, the GTA can expect a very slippery drive home tonight and depending on how quickly it melts, tomorrow morning as well.

Freezing rain today. An area of freezing rain is moving over Southwestern Ontario early this morning. The freezing rain could persist for much of the day before changing to freezing drizzle this evening. Freezing drizzle is expected to continue tonight and into Thursday morning. The morning and evening commutes will likely be affected due to the potential for untreated surfaces to become icy. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur.

Winter Weather Travel Advisory in effect for today.

Snow or ice pellets are expected to begin over the area early this morning. There is also the risk of freezing rain today. Snow and ice pellet accumulations near 2 to 4 cm are expected before the precipitation changes to freezing drizzle this afternoon. Freezing drizzle is expected to continue tonight and into Thursday morning. Freezing drizzle advisories may be required. The morning and evening commutes will likely be affected due to accumulating ice pellets and the potential for untreated surfaces to become icy.
