Multiple Weather Warnings And Watches Posted For Today

There are various weather statements in effect for southern Ontario. Environment Canada says a weak band of light snow at times mixed with ice pellets could hit the GTA late this morning or early this afternoon. Very little accumulation is expected but the roads could get slippery fast. A more significant area of precipitation is expected this evening. A brief period of freezing rain is possible before it changes to rain.

  • Burlington – Oakville
  • Halton Hills – Milton
  • Mississauga – Brampton
  • Guelph – Erin – Southern Wellington County
  • Kitchener – Cambridge – Region of Waterloo
  • Mount Forest – Arthur – Northern Wellington County
  • Pickering – Oshawa – Southern Durham Region

Some freezing rain possible this evening. A weak band of light snow at times mixed with ice pellets may affect the area from midday into the afternoon. Latest analysis is suggesting that very little accumulation is likely, with only a trace to perhaps a couple of centimetres possible.

A more significant area of precipitation is expected to move into the area early this evening. A brief period of freezing rain is possible in the evening before precipitation changes to rain, especially for areas away from Lake Ontario. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, particularly this evening, as untreated roads may become slippery. There may be an impact on the evening commute.

  • Shelburne – Mansfield – Northern Dufferin County
  • Bruce Peninsula – Sauble Beach – Tobermory
  • Hanover – Dundalk – Southern Grey County
  • Owen Sound – Blue Mountains – Northern Grey County
  • Saugeen Shores – Kincardine – Southern Bruce County

Freezing rain likely this evening. Some light snow or ice pellets may affect the area late this morning into the afternoon, but any accumulations should be limited to a few centimetres at most. Locally slippery conditions are possible.

A few hours of freezing rain are possible before precipitation changes to rain later in the evening, particularly over higher elevation areas such as the Dundalk Highlands. At this point, freezing rain amounts are expected to be fairly light. However, untreated surfaces may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

  • Bracebridge – Gravenhurst
  • Huntsville – Baysville
  • Port Carling – Port Severn
  • Town of Parry Sound – Rosseau – Killbear Park

Significant snowfall expected this afternoon and tonight. Snow associated with an approaching low pressure system is expected to move into the area this afternoon and persist into the overnight hours. Some areas may see snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm.

Snow may be accompanied by ice pellets before changing to rain overnight. There is also a risk of freezing rain during the changeover. Motorists are urged to exercise caution as road conditions may be poor at times.
