Premier Ford says new legislation to combat human trafficking shows Ontario’s continued leadership in responding to what he calls a terrible crime. The proposed changes would increase penalties for traffickers who interfere with a child in care of a Children’s Aid Society. They would also clarify how and when police can access hotel guest registries to help find victims. Ford says Ontario has become a hub for human trafficking — accounting for about 55 per cent of all police-reported incidents across the country in 2019.
