The hunt for two young men wanted for murder in B.C. has not yet yielded any strong leads and now the R.C.M.P. are scaling down their search in northern Manitoba. Assistant commissioner Jane MacLatchy admitted that the deep woods and many lakes surrounding the focal point of their search — Gillam, Manitoba — is just a very tough place to find somebody who doesn’t want to be found. They say the search is not over.
Meanwhile, provincial police in Ontario (O.P.P.) say they are investigating after someone reported seeing two men, who looked similar to the suspects, driving through a local work site in the northeastern community of Kapuskasing. So far there has been no confirmation. Kapuskasing is quite a distance away from Gillam, Manitoba. In fact it’s more than 2,300 kilometres away by car.
18-year-old Bryer Schmegelsky and 19-year-old Kam McLeod have been on the run for over a week.
