Ratings For The Oscars Were Up This Year With No Host

The 91st annual Academy Awards drew controversy for several attempts to streamline the show, including having no formal host, but at least some of that effort appears to have paid off.  The show claimed an average 29.6 million viewers Sunday, according to preliminary Nielsen estimates, adding more than 3 million viewers from last year’s record-low turnout of 26.5 million. But the Oscars still ranked well below the 32.9 million the awards show claimed in 2017, when “Moonlight” bested “La La Land” after a podium snafu.
