At least seven deaths from Hurricane Dorian have now been reported in the Bahamas, but the full scope of the disaster remains unknown. The storm’s winds and floodwaters have destroyed or severely damaged thousands of homes, crippled hospitals and trapped people in attics. The U.S. Coast Guard, Britain’s Royal Navy and a handful of aid groups are trying to get food and medicine to survivors. Meanwhile, it looks like Florida will be spared a direct hit but the category 2 storm is pounding the east coast with what the National Hurricane Centre calls life threatening storm surge and dangerous winds. Georgia and North & South Carolina will also feel a severe impact and the government is warning that even Virginia will feel the rain and winds.
