The Notorious B.I.G. has been saluted in his native Brooklyn, New York with a street named in his honor. The rap legend’s mother, Voletta Wallace, was among those who braved the rain and gathered at the corner of Fulton Street and St. James Place in Clinton Hill on Monday, as the new sign for Christopher “Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace Way was unveiled. “This street is going to be a love street. People are going to come here and they’re going to know that a young man, my son, was living here,” Voletta said at the ceremony, which was also attended by Lil’ Cease, a member of the late star’s Junior M.A.F.I.A. crew. The street renaming was approved by members of the New York City Council in December, when they also voted unanimously to celebrate the legacies of the Wu-Tang Clan and singer/songwriter Woody Guthrie with similar honors. B.I.G. was killed in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles back in 1997. The 24 year old’s murder has never been solved.
