Study Finds Canadians Will Spend Less On Christmas This Year

A new survey from the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada has found that we are planning to spend a decent amount less on Christmas this year.  On average, we will spend $583 dollars. That’s down from $643 last year. Only 1 in 5 anticipate spending more than they budgeted and only slightly more than 40% even plan to set a budget. Is this the year Canada shops online? It looks that way. Only 46% plan to shop in person at stores.

We are just over a week away from Black Friday.  A new study analyzed the Black Friday ads from 29 retail chains to figure out who’s offering the best average deals this year and who’s offering the worst? They found on average, Black Friday this year will offer 40.4% off regular price. That’s an improvement from 37% last year. Among the retailers (that we have in Canada) offering the lowest average discounts: True Value Hardware, Costco, Amazon, Dell and Best Buy.
