Taco Bell has warned of a wrap shortage as staff brand it the “tortillapocalypse”. The chain says it has impacted some of its 5,600 restaurants, but accounts purportedly from employees online say the problem is widespread. The shortage is being attributed to a warehouse shortage in 10 inch tortillas, affecting burritos, quesadillas, quesaritos, grillers and more. The post on Reddit says: “I hope this ends soon, ‘cause at my restaurant, we’re down to our last box.”
In a statement provided to Fox News Taco Bell confirmed a problem with their supplier but would not confirm the number of Taco Bells which were lacking. It says: “While some Taco Bell restaurants are experiencing supplier shortages, we are working diligently to replenish the supply of our tortillas (used for products like quesadillas and burritos) in those restaurants and encourage fans to try the Chalupa Cravings Box in the meantime. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause and appreciate our customers’ patience.” Another post on Reddit claims to show a notice in a store which says: “Due to national outage of our flour tortilla shell (wraps) we are temporarily unable to sell the following menu items: Burritos (all), Quesadilla.” The user, called “tacobellblake,” says that in the first two weeks of July Taco Bell will be at less than half of its usual stock of the wraps. He claims an internal email says they are aiming to get their stocks of tortillas back up to normal levels by the end of July. It’s not clear if the shortage is affecting Canadian locations.
