The Fire Marshal Says It Was A “High Order Explosion” That Leveled A Caledon Home On Sunday

An Ontario Fire Marshal investigator says the massive blast that damaged more than 20 homes and left one man dead in Caledon on Sunday morning was a “high order explosion.” Andrea Gaynor told reporters at the scene yesterday that the blast pressure wave went through the area at over 1000 metres per second — shattering everything in its path. 54-year-old Joseph Westcott was found in the rubble of a home where the blast originated. The explosion forced the evacuation of 30 to 35 people and investigators say some residents could be out of their homes for months.

The cause of the blast is still under investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact Peel Regional Police, the office of the fire marshal or Crime Stoppers.
