Environment Canada has issued a winter weather advisory for parts of the GTHA. It calls for rapidly accumulating snow today, along with high winds. Visibility will be reduced. Here are the details:
4:53 AM EST Wednesday 16 December 2020
Weather advisory in effect for:
- City of Toronto
- City of Hamilton
- Burlington – Oakville
- Halton Hills – Milton
- Mississauga – Brampton
Winter Weather Travel Advisory in effect today. A narrow band of lake effect snow has developed over western Lake Ontario and is expected to move inland early this morning. This band will be over the Burlington area early this morning and slowly shift northwards reaching the southwestern section of the City of Toronto by mid morning. Through the afternoon the band will drift south, reaching downtown Hamilton in the evening. Total snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm are possible by the time snow tapers off overnight with snowfall rates of several centimeters per hour likely.
Under the lake effect bands heavy bursts of snow and blowing snow can significantly reduce visibilities. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and be prepared for quickly changing driving conditions. Consider postponing non essential travel as snow covered and icy roads are expected.
