Trade Panel Agrees With The Americans On Softwood Lumber

A NAFTA panel has backed the U.S. International Trade Commission’s decision regarding softwood lumber imports from Canada. The U.S. Lumber Coalition says the decision affirms the U.S.I.T.C. determination from December that the imports “materially injured” American producers and workers. It says the harm is caused by the Canadian government providing its lumber industry “massive subsidies” and dumping those products on the U.S. market. However, the B.C. Lumber Trade Council says it remains convinced the determination is “flawed and without merit.
