The TTC have installed yellow posts outside the Queens Quay streetcar tunnel at Queens Quay and York St. Unfortunately, this was necessary because a lot of drivers mistakenly turned into that tunnel, thinking it was a road. Often they would blame their GPS for the error. When cars turned into the tunnel they would get stuck on the tracks. Recovering those vehicles came at a cost of thousands of dollars, each time. The posts aren’t the only addition. A gate mechanism will also be installed, according to a tweet from TTC executive Brad Ross.

Additional bollards were installed this weekend at York and Queen’s Quay to make it that much more obvious that the streetcar tracks are a no-go zone for autos. A lift gate closer to the tunnel will be installed in the coming weeks. pic.twitter.com/QXAktpIiNY
