Two people are dead after a car crashed into Lake Ontario in Burlington last night. It happened around 8pm at LaSalle Park Marina. Halton Police say the car crashed through a barrier and a sign and then drove into the lake approximately 40 to 50 feet from the shore. Two witnesses jumped in the water and tried to rescue the occupants of the car, but were not able to save the pair. A 55-year old man and a 51-year old woman were pulled from the submerged vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the two has not been released. The cause of the crash is under investigation. Any witnesses are asked to contact Halton Regional Police.
