The Union Is Accusing Canada Post Of Intentionally Stalling Negotiations

With countless mail and parcels still backlogged across the country, the head of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers says rotating strikes are continuing in their fifth week. Mike Palecek is accusing Canada Post of refusing to negotiate, claiming Canada Post is stalling, waiting for the federal government to table back-to-work legislation if a deal isn’t reached within days. He adds Ottawa’s threat is unwelcome, and undermines the chances of negotiated settlements. Labour Minister Patty Hajdu says the government has faith in the collective-bargaining process, but has exhausted the alternatives. She adds Ottawa has reappointed Morton Mitchnick as special mediator on the file.
