On Tuesday, it was announced that a wine company was releasing a collection inspired by The Handmaid’s Tale. Within 24 hours, it was announced that the collection was cancelled due to criticism. A collaboration between MGM and wine seller Lot18 was set to release three different wines. Two reds in tribute to Elisabeth Moss and Alexis Bledel‘s characters, Offred and Ofglen, and a white wine for Yvonne Strahovski‘s Serena Joy. Not too long after that, it was announced that it was being pulled: “After further consideration, Lot18 and MGM have decided to cancel the line of wines inspired by The Handmaid’s Tale.”
The show, which was originally a book by Canadian Author Margret Atwood, follows a group of women surviving in a totalitarian government forcing women to reproduce against their will. It is the most popular show on Hulu. It also happens to be partly filmed in Cambridge, Hamilton, Toronto and several other areas of the province.
