The Ontario legislature resumes today with the selection of a speaker as Premiere Doug Ford recalls the legislature for a rare summer sitting.
The new Progressive Conservative government has already laid out their priorities for the rare summer session at Queen’s Park. Tory house leader Todd Smith says scrapping cap and trade, ending the York University strike and cancelling a controversial wind farm project are high on the agenda for the newly elected MPP’s. Smith says those issues are time sensitive and the government will act quickly on all three.
Smith says the Tories will address other campaign promises such as firing the CEO of Hydro One, repealing the sex ed curriculum and selling beer and wine in corner stores at a later date. Lieutenant-Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell will deliver a throne speech tomorrow.
