Starting today, everyone who is 12 years of age or older can pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine in Waterloo Region. Pre-registration is expanding locally as the Province announces a stable and reliable vaccine supply in Ontario.
Health Canada recently approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for anyone 12-15 years of age. Individuals who are 12-17 years old will receive the Pfizer vaccine when it is their turn to get an appointment. The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine is approved for anyone 18 year of age and older. COVID-19 vaccination is not recommended for anyone younger than 12 years of age at this time.
Everyone 12+ can pre-register for the vaccine on the Region of Waterloo website: COVID-19 Vaccination Pre-registration.
Now that COVID-19 pre-registration has opened broadly to all eligible age groups, the following information is important for everyone waiting for an appointment through the Waterloo Region booking system:
- After you pre-register, it may take 4-6 weeks to be contacted for an appointment.
- Don’t worry if you already pre-registered and are still waiting to be notified. People will be invited to book an appointment in order of eligibility for the vaccine, subject to vaccine availability. More information is available on the Region of Waterloo website: Eligible priority groups
- When residents receive their booking notification, they are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment right away.
- When individuals book an appointment, checking all clinic locations for open appointments is recommended for those who want to get the vaccine as soon as possible.
