What’s Open And Closed On The Long Weekend

It’s the end of the month. Tomorrow August begins and Monday is a holiday for many as we celebrate Simcoe Day here in Ontario, which is a “civic holiday“. Banks, government offices, libraries and many stores will be closed. There will be no mail delivery. The LCBO will be closed but many Beer Store locations will be open, on holiday hours. Check online before you head out. Some malls will be open, on reduced hours. Some major tourist attractions will be open, but not all. Go Transit will run on a Saturday schedule and most local transit systems including the TTC (Toronto) and Grand River Transit (Waterloo Region) will be on a holiday schedule. Just a reminder, Simcoe Day is not a long weekend when fireworks are permitted.

Most movie theatres will be open this long weekend. Both Cineplex and Landmark Cinemas have announced they are reopening, with restrictions, today.

Residents of Toronto and Peel Region have something to look forward to this long weekend. They are moving on to Stage 3 of reopening today, which means residents can now eat inside a restaurant and get various other services performed. Gathering limits also increase. The Ontario government gave them the green light earlier this week, leaving only Windsor-Essex still in Stage 2. That region is still grappling with COVID19 outbreaks on farms.
