Most schools across Ontario could be shut down for the day next Friday, February 21, 2020. The province’s four major teacher unions say they will stage a one-day walkout to pressure the government into accepting their contract demands. About 5,000 schools with more than 2-million students would be affected. Hundreds of elementary teachers protested outside a downtown Toronto hotel yesterday afternoon as Education Minister Stephen Lecce was speaking. He called the threatened job action irresponsible. Teachers in Ontario’s French system are holding a province wide walkout today; the first since the inception of French-language school boards in 1997. Teachers at some elementary and secondary boards are also holding walkouts today.
